Diary of a Demo

It all started on a Saturday morning run with my friends. We’ve met up every Saturday for 7+ years to slug out a few miles together and update each other with what’s going on in our lives. I’ve thrown a few BeneFit Bars their way over the years, but they’ve asked me very few questions about dieting. Today was different. Several of them were really curious about trying some HMR foods. Then, as if my mouth had a mind of its own, I heard myself say, “How about I have you all over so you can try them for yourself?” Two weeks later, there we all were in my kitchen. They crowded around the island in a semi-circle in anticipation of what was creating that inviting aroma coming from the oven. They had to wait. But there were no complaints as they sampled their first smoothie – The Black Forest (frozen cherries and chocolate shake). They were wowed from the first sip! So far so good. On to the next smoothie – The Root Beer Freeze (Diet Root Beer and vanilla shake).

HMR food party

Again, another “wow” moment! Begging to try what was cooking in the oven, I presented the HMR Lasagna layered with zucchini squash, tomatoes, garlic and mushrooms – baked to perfection. That put them over the edge. “My whole family would eat this!”, “Wait, you can eat this and lose weight?” Yes, Virginia, there really is diet food that you would actually WANT to eat.  :)

Before the demo was over my friends had sampled a couple more entree and shake recipes and were discussing which ones were their faves. And just when they thought they had tasted everything, I hit them with peach cobbler made with HMR Multigrain Cereal and peaches. One gal was overheard saying, “I should have saved room for more of that!”

Since that fateful Saturday, I’ve enjoyed hearing about their own recipes they’ve created and how many pounds have come off. Who knows, maybe someday soon I’ll be standing in their kitchens enjoying a food demo of their own HMR recipes!

This was a great way to introduce my friends to HMR. Having a themed demo could make it even more fun. Try it yourself! How about:

  • Fresh and Fruity – sample your best smoothie recipes. Have each person bring a different fruit and see what combinations you can come up with.
  • Green theme – Pistachio shakes and a Green Bean Casserole (Mushroom Risotto, one packet of HMR Chicken Soup, and a can of green beans cooked together).
  • Summer Entree Salads – Turkey Chili with Beans Entree over a green salad, Cold Bean Salad (Five Bean Casserole mixed with chick peas, black beans, tomatoes, and garnished with avocado and cilantro or basil).

The possibilities are endless!! All you need are a couple of friends and a couple of recipes. Cheers!

What a great idea, Sandi! Instead of a jewelry demonstration or a candle demonstration, have an HMR demonstration!

Great idea Sandi! I've hosted a Healthy Solutions potluck before and provided the Turkey Chili with Beans and the Vegetable Stew with Beef entrees, as well as baked regular and sweet potatoes, and a corn and edamame succotash. Friends brought avocado and tomato salad, fruit salad, and cooked green beans. It was lots of food, very filling, delicious, low calorie and very fun!
