The Super Bowl: Who’s Going to Win?

super bowl

Super Bowl is arguably the biggest football event of the year. The game usually features one team that’s heavily favored. What makes the game interesting is that the other team, the underdog, can pull off an upset with practice, planning, and proper execution.

Two other teams play a high stakes game on Super Bowl Sunday. Team Gap will consume nachos, pizza, chips and high-fat dips, meatballs, fried chicken, peanuts, ribs, wings, quesadillas, and hot dogs. Team Weight Management will consume HMR Shakes made into smoothies, mousse, ice cream, soup, hot cereal, and puddings. They’ll also have entrees mixed with soups and other entrees. Vegetables and fruits, if applicable, will round out the roster.

Judging from what Americans typically eat, Team Gap will be favored. But, with enough practice, planning, and proper execution, team Weight Management could just pull off the upset of the season. That means YOU win!

To have a successful weight management day, take a look at some of the delicious recipes below. The more recipes you serve, and the more servings of vegetables and fruits you have (if on your diet), the better your chances are of coming out victorious. And, to stack the odds even more in your favor, get in plenty of physical activity before the game starts.

Note: Some of these recipes are appropriate for the Decision-Free® diet, and some include vegetables and fruit so they’re only appropriate for the Healthy Solutions® diet. All are appropriate for Phase 2.

Appetizers and ‘lite bites’:

Here is a blog with 2 dip recipes and some alternatives to chips for dipping: Dips Without Chips

Toasted Ravioli? An interesting and tasty way to prepare the HMR entree. Click here for the recipe.

Main Course:

Creole Chicken Bisque:  How about a thick, creamy bowl of soup to start the game?

Chili Mac:  OK, I admit I’ve served this to guests and neglected to mention it was “in the box.” And they loved it.

Hearty Turkey Chili Potato:  A real comfort food favorite.

Southwestern Beef Stew: This can be made ahead and put on the oven when you are ready.

Baked Potatoes, Ratatouille, Minestrone Soup, Marinara Sauce, and Applesauce. Dust off that crockpot and let the yummy smells fill the house. Read this blog called ‘My Favorite Kitchen Gadgets (and how I use them to make my life easier): The Crockpot Edition’

Dessert:

Key Lime Mousse:  Just like Key Lime Pie, without the excess calories.

Pistachio Soft-Serve Ice Cream:  Easy to make and oh so filling.

Strawberry-Amaretto Soft-Serve Ice Cream:  Need I say more?
