Top 5 from the Trenches: High Volume Shakes

Ever wonder what other HMR dieters’ favorite recipes are?

Welcome to the first in a series of “Top 5” lists all about our most popular (and most filling) recipes, according to HMR dieters. We’ll explore everything from high volume shakes made with fruit, to entrees with veggies, as well as grab-and-go veggie and fruit snacks.

This week, we spent some time polling the dieters at our program in Newton, MA to find out what standard shake recipes are their “go-to’s” for when they are really hungry.

These are ideas that we can all utilize at one time or another during the week, right? For instance, just yesterday afternoon, I found myself with a terrible case of the hungry horrors and went straight to one of the recipes listed below. It really did wonders to take the edge off during what is typically a really difficult time of day for me.

While preparing dinner for my family, I can sometimes snack on anything that is around me and those calories can add up quick! Making a high volume shake to drink at that time kept me full for 3 hours – on just 150 calories! How can you beat that?

So, without further ado, here they are! Please feel free to share your favorites.

  1. HMR Chocolate Shake made with diet cherry soda and chocolate fudge sugar-free/fat-free Jell-o® pudding mix.
  2. “Giant Mocha Shake” made with HMR Chocolate Shake and iced coffee and 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder.
  3. Banana/Strawberry smoothie, made with HMR Vanilla Shake, 1 banana and 1 cup of frozen strawberries.
  4. HMR Vanilla Shake with pistachio sugar-free/fat-free Jell-o pudding mix.
  5. HMR Vanilla OR Chocolate Shake made with diet orange soda and sugar-free/fat-free white chocolate Jell-o pudding with frozen mandarin oranges.

With Girl Scout cookie season, I think about my favorite flavor of GS cookie and have put together an HMR shake that satisfies my craving for those little mint cookies. Use your chocolate shake (whichever version you use), then add 1 chocolate benefit bar, cut into pieces and 1/8 teaspon of mint extract. Add ice and blend to your desired consistency. I like leaving little chuncks of the bar for texture.

leslied - thank you for your comment! I usually use just 1 tablespoon of any sugar free fat free jello or jello pudding to flavor the shakes. I hope that helps! Believe me, it's enough to both thicken and flavor the shake. Good luck with your weight loss journey! Thanks to everyone for your comments!

Hi ,I 'm new and have a question. How much of the jello do you use? I am lactose intolerant and use the 70 shakes. thanks "

I'm not a huge fan of making the orange creamsicle shake--diet orange soda with a vanilla shake--for some reason my shake always comes out super slushy :( but, I love the idea of making an orange cream shake with frozen oranges instead! thanks for the idea!

Hey Jenny, thanks for posting this. I had totally forgotten about using my (precious) 70+ Chocolate Shake with Orange Soda. I'm doing that for sure tomorrow. Wooooo-Hooooo! Totally looking forward to it!

Just wanted to give a 'thumbs up' to the Banana/Strawberry smoothie. We probably made 200-300 smoothies at a recent HMR Training in FL. We couldn't make them fast enough!
