We often hear from people on the HMR diet that once they lose weight - even a small amount of weight when they are just starting the diet - can lead to better quality sleep and even stop symptoms of sleep apnea! What health benefits are you seeing from losing weight?

As a nurse, I hear patients report getting instructions from their doctor to reduce pressure of CPAP machine when weight is down 40-50 lb. Sometimes, with more weight loss, people can discontinue use of CPAP entirely. And they say, "Why didn't I do this (lose weight) earlier?". Needless to say, they are thrilled with the results.

Sleeping better is high on my list. Also: more energy, snoring less, fewer medications, mentally sharper, wearing clothes that aren't on the 'fat rack', ability to walk long distances (especially while on vacation), and living longer/healthier.

I recently lost 20 and even that modest amount made such a difference with how I feel! My clothes feel so much better and I have a lot more energy to chase my kids around!

This is an inspiring thread! Last night I was ready to go to bed without PA for the day. Reading this inspired me to get on the treadclimber for 200 calories. It wasn't as bad as I'd been thinking.

Thank To Each Of Your Replies!

Go Peggy! I know you sometimes struggle with PA, so being on your computer helped you to get on the treadclimber!

I know that the request to limit my caffine has really helped my sleep. I was adicted to my diet sodas. (I still am a little.) But now I limit myself to 3 a day and none after 2:00. I sleep MUCH better these days. :-)

I sleep so much better now that I've lost weight. I require less sleep and feel more rested. I don't snore near as much so my husband also sleeps better.

I have the same problem it was nothing for me to drink between 5-6 diet sodas a day. I am so thankful for the HMR class that I went to this week because part of it was about drinking too many sodas. The health educater brought our attention to the different types of sweetner in them and what they do to you. So I have now dropped down to 3-4. I have to admit that is not easy

My wife's favorite by-product of my time with HMR is the fact that, two weeks into Phase 1, my snoring went away entirely! She sleeps better, I sleep better... It's a win-win situation!
