Girl About Town: Putting Your Best Foot Forward

One of the ways I make sure I get some exercise almost every day is that I am a bona fide walker. My commute to work has a mile-and-a-half built in each way, my neighborhood has some great walking routes that I frequently explore, and when I’m in town, I run errands by walking from place to place. So with this kind of automatic exercise built into my days, I need to make sure I am wearing comfortable shoes I can walk in. And priority numero uno, I need to make sure those shoes are stylish and fab, because this girl loves her shoes!

My philosophy
If I’m wearing walkable shoes, I’m much more likely to actually walk. When I’m shoe shopping, I always look for shoes that look great and will be comfortable – if I can’t walk in them, they will end up sitting in my closet, because I am a girl that walks. (I always have a few pairs of shoes at work so I can make the switch when I get into the office and I often carry a pair with me in my bag).

Shop Around

Zappos, www.zappos.com, is a mega-site that has a huge selection of everything you could ever possibly want to put on your feet. It’s also great because they ship for free (returns too!) and have amazing customer service, so you can feel confident about buying shoes online. I also feel strongly about supporting local small businesses, so definitely check out your town’s shops too.

Here is one of my top picks:

The “Old Faithful” of walkable shoes, clogs are known to be good for your feet and now come in lots of cool styles and colors, like this one, made into a stylish sandal:

What is your favorite footwear that keeps your body stylishly in motion?

Love your blog, Jessie! I have developed a reputation at the office for my shoe collection... but having all of my "work shoes" at the office forces me to wear comfortable walking shoes on my commute, which eliminates a potential excuse to take the train instead of walking.
