How to Turn a Bad Day into a Good Week

back on track

We’ve all had them. The days that don’t go as planned. The days we forget our lunch, end up shopping while hungry, or find ourselves somehow in the food court. “The Gap” always has a plan for us and that plan usually leads to weight gain.

So whether it’s a chocolate cake delivered with good intentions, or the BBQ ribs you just couldn’t pass up... a high-calorie day doesn’t have to ruin your week.

Top Tips for Turning a Bad Day into a Good Week:

  • Use environmental control. Get rid of temptations, remove yourself from the scene, and surround yourself with healthy options.
  • Eat something healthy as soon as possible. Have a fruit or vegetable serving and/or an HMR meal replacement. Yes, now!
  • Go for a walk. Just around the block or out for a mile or two. Call your workout buddy and schedule a meet-up for tomorrow. Go to the gym and try a new class.
  • Call your health coach, best friend or a family member - whomever supports you in your weight-loss efforts. Tell them what happened. The world is still turning even though you had the cookie.
  • Set a goal for your highest meal replacement day and/or fruit and veggie day ever for the next day. Plan it out. Post the goal on your refrigerator.
  • Write down three things you did today that you feel proud of. The more you focus on the positive, and on being kind to yourself, the more likely you will be to continue to engage in positive behaviors for health.

When we think of ourselves as “all or nothing” dieters, we give up the good for the perfect. When we let go of the perfect, we have a better chance of staying in the process. That doesn’t mean making excuses, it means making a long-term commitment.

Turn a bad choice into a great week. The very next thing you do is your opportunity to continue on the path to a healthier you!
