Eight Ways to Get Off the Couch and into the Stretch Zone

where the magic happens

You have lost some weight - maybe a lot of weight! And up until now, you have had a pretty good routine going... but... the last couple of weeks you have had a nibble of this and a taste of that, and it was raining so you missed a couple bouts of PA and yawn, boy, a nap would be good right about now...

It happens to everybody. The scale creeps up. A pound this week, a pound last week - no worries - you tell yourself - I can lose it easily - just like I did before.

WARNING!! WARNING!! WARNING!! The sirens are wailing and the red flags waving!

This is how you gained weight in the first place. Ounce by ounce, pound by pound. A piece of pizza here, a bite of cake there, and a few too many mornings hitting the snooze button.

NOW is the time to STRRRRETCH! Do what you think you can't do. Do what you've never done before. Try something again - maybe you'll like it this time.

8 New Ways to STRRRRRETCH!

  1. Join a yoga class, do water aerobics, rent a kayak. The bottom line: try something new.
  2. Hire a personal trainer.
  3. Try a new entree or shake recipe. Add new vegetables and fruits
  4. Break out the food processor and make a mousse out of the HMR Shake, for lots of volume and a super delicious treat.
  5. Make shakes with a tablespoon of your favorite flavor of fat-free sugar-free pudding powder and freeze them for an hour or so for a creamy treat.
  6. Buy a vegetarian cookbook and try a new recipe this weekend.
  7. Sample a vegetable you’ve never tried before. Start doing some research to join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and have your fruits and veggies delivered fresh from the farm.
  8. Attend an HMR class or call your Health Educator – get some accountability for your goals.

When you decided to lose weight you welcomed change into your life and you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone. When you stretched in this way, you learned and you changed. Then the stretch became comfortable. And while you were relaxing – maybe some old behaviors crept back in.

Now it's time to stretch again and it might feel uncomfortable. Being uncomfortable is OK - it’s a way to grow. When it comes to being healthy - there's always something more you can do! Stay open to coaching and be willing to learn.

Long-term health and weight management is not a destination – it's an ongoing journey... So get up right now and STRRRETCH!
